The Home Campaign: Phase II
Esteemed poet Maya Angelou once wrote “The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” Most would agree that the value of a home cannot be overstated. 2nd Mile has been a place of refuge for families in the Brentwood Neighborhood for 20 years despite not having a home of our own. For two decades we have operated out of neighborhood homes, community spaces, and a local church basement. The “ache for home” Maya Angelou spoke of has begun to set in. Now is the time to secure a permanent home where we will see even more people flourish through the programs offered by 2nd Mile. When Brentwood flourishes we all flourish. Partner with 2nd Mile for the good of our neighborhood, our city, and the Glory of God.
The Home Campaign was launched in response to a unique opportunity. When a strategically located building on Pearl Street came on the market, 2nd Mile negotiated an exclusive twelve week window with the owner to purchase the building contingent on raising the necessary funds, approximately $320,000, before that deadline. In a sprint of unexpected and providential twists and turns, 2nd Mile saw that first goal reached on the very day of the deadline and purchased the building outright.
At current, this building is a blank canvas waiting to be repurposed for God’s glory and the flourishing of the community. A renovation will allow the space to be used for a wide variety of Kingdom initiatives such as youth leadership development, senior citizen social isolation prevention, hosting out-of-town teams, and organizing the community. It will also serve as a space for 2nd Mile to grow into future initiatives as we seek to create a community where justice reigns, students thrive, families flourish, and God is glorified.
2nd Mile is entering into Phase Two of the Home Campaign, raising funds towards the renovation to build out this gospel beacon in Brentwood. We are grateful to have you on this journey of faith and generosity with us.
